The Medina Co, Ohio, Gazette had an article in Nov 1898 that Laura Seymour had died 30 Oct 1898 in St. Louis, Gratiot Co, MI. While her family is buried in Medina Co, OH, she is not. Am looking for confirmation of death and knowledge of her place of burial. Her maiden name was Allen and previous married name was Burdoin.
The 1880 Federal Population Census for North Star,Gratiot County listed my great-grandmother, Clara May Harrod (b. 27 Jun 1873 in Ohio)as the 7 year old adopted daughter of Thomas H. HARROD and Jane E. HARROD, both born in England. This couple also had a natural son, John J.(b ca 1877). On 3 Jul 1890, Clara married Henry William HAYES in North Star,Gratiot Co, MI by C.A. Jacokes, Minister. Henry stated on the marriage license that his parents were Rutherford HAYES and Mary HUMPHREY both of England. On a death certificate for Clara it was stated that her father's name was Henry Fell of Ohio. Henry & Clara Hayes had 4 children born in Graitot Co: Charley, April 1891;Mary & Martha, twins, 1893; and Thomas William , Sept 1897. By 1900 they had moved to Newton Co, Mississippi. Any help would be appreciated and I will gladly exchange information. If anyone would have information about any agencies for homeless children during the 1870's in either Michigan or Ohio (possibly a Methodist home)I would appreciate those names.
