Published in 1913 and written by the owner, editor of the Gratiot County Herald, Willard Tucker, this book is a very interesting history of the county. One of the best references for starting your ancestor search in Gratiot County.

The query boards have been integrated into a new system on MyFamily-Ancestry
Servers which Rootsweb is a part of. All messages that were on the older
GenConnect system are available on the new system.
It is best to also check records in surrounding counties for your ancestors
also. Some of the reasons are: New counties divided out of old larger counties as the
population grew. Many of Gratiot Co. residents traveled to lower counties for business and legal matters. Some
records are there because they had family in that county and when they visited they stayed for long periods due to
transportation, and a major life event would take place such as births, deaths, illness.
Another reason is a family lived on the edge of Gratiot Co. and were closer to a
larger town in the next county, and went there to register a vital event.
In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the MIGenWeb Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all Michigan counties, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.
At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.
