These articles vary in content. Some of them contain family information, what state they came from and the unit(s) they served. The articles have been transcribed and are in the Gratiot Co. Archives so you can view online.
There are also lists of veterens with signup dates and companies served in, posted in the Gratiot County Archives Index.
Rudolph Luscher (It is probably listed as Lusher
in any records you have there.) His obituary was in the March 29, 1923 edition of the Gratiot County Herald. The obituary indicates his
birthday was December 8, but from his death certificate, I calculate it to be December 13, 1839. He was born in Switzerland and emigrated to US
in 1854 with his parents Jacob and Anna Luscher.
He was a veteran of the Civil War and is buried in Fulton Cemetery. I am assuming that is located in Perrinton, since that is where he lived. He
enlisted in Co.. D, 9th MI Infantry 9/5/1861 at Lyons, age 22. Mustered 10/15/1961. Re-enlisted 12/7/1863 at Chatanooga, TN. Mustered
12/25/1863 as Corporal. Discharged at Washington, DC 11/8/1865. (This information came from two gentlemen who maintain Civil War records
and were looking for gravesites. I provided them with the cemetery information and they provided me with military information.) I thought you
might like to add them to the list of Civil War veterans on the Gratiot County website. His obituary indicates he was in Andersonville cemetery,
but I have not been able to verify that as yet.
He had two sons, Albert and Charles. Albert had passed away by the time Rudolph died, but Charles was still alive. If you have any
information on either of them, I would appreciate receiving it.
